Michel Bouillon

Llittle is known about the life of Michel Bouillons who is today considered one of the most important still life painters of the “Grand Siècle” who worked outside of Paris. He worked with his father Jean Bouillon who‘s pupil was also Philippe de Champaigne. In 1638 he was mentioned for the first time, as member of the Saint Lucas guild in Tournai. In 1670 he painted decorations on the occasion of the triumphal entry of Louis XIV into Tournai. Apart from that he also specialized in smaller compositions for private commissioners. Influenced by Dutch painting he often combined architectural motives and trompe l’oeil elements into his still live compositions.
